Getting started
Importing a script, the page, search, the pen, notes, cuts, tags and settings.
The library and importing a script
- QPlot opens on the library. Every script in it is a show.
- Tap Import and pick the script. PDF and Word files both work.
- QPlot reads the text of every page on the iPad, scanned pages included, so search works. The script is usable while it reads.
- Library, top left, goes back.
- Press and hold a show to rename, duplicate, export or delete it.
- A show reopens at the page it was left on.
The page
- The script shows one page at a time. Swipe to turn.
- Or tap the side edge of the page with a finger.
- The Pencil marks the page. A finger turns pages and moves things.
- Pinch to zoom in. Pinch back out to fit.
- The page count is at the end of the tool bar.
- Pages shows the whole script. Tap a page to go to it.
The side panel and search
- The panel button, top left beside Library, opens and closes the side panel.
- Scenes lists the acts and scenes in show order. Tap one to go to it.
- The act, scene and song for the page on screen are marked.
- Songs, Cues and Notes work the same way.
- Tap Search, or the box at the top of the panel. It looks in tags first. Type a few words of a song title, or act 2.
- Whole script searches the words. Each result has the line and its page.
- Type a page number to go to that page.
- Type a cue to go to it. SND5, or 5 for every cue numbered 5.
- Tap the mic and say it. Voice search fills the same box and stops once you stop talking.
The tool bar, pen and undo
- The tool bar sits under the page: Pen, Note, Cut, Tag, then a button for each department switched on.
- Pen, Tag and the departments are groups. Tap one and its tools take over the bar. Back returns.
- A group opens on the tool last used in it. The tool in use is lit.
- Pen draws in black, red, blue or green.
- Highlight comes in yellow, pink, green and blue. It sits behind the words.
- Erase rubs out ink.
- With Erase picked, tap a cue, tag or note to delete it. QPlot asks first.
- Undo and Redo are at the top right. Undo goes back 200 steps.
Notes
- Pick Note and tap the page with the Pencil. A sheet of lined paper opens over the script.
- Write on it, as much as you need.
- Tap Text to see how QPlot read it. If a word is wrong, fix it with the keyboard.
- Read again reads the writing afresh. The eraser clears the text.
- Tap Done. A yellow note sits where you tapped.
Cuts
- A cut greys out lines the show has dropped. Pick Cut and draw from the first word to the last.
- Swipe along one line to cut that one line.
- With Cut picked, drag a cut to move it. Drag its orange corner to resize it.
- Tap a cut to delete it. QPlot asks first.
Tagging acts and songs
- Tag each act and song. The side panel then lists them and search finds them.
- Open Tag and pick Act, Scene or Song.
- Circle the heading with the Pencil. QPlot reads the words and names the tag.
- Songs are tagged the same way.
- This script has no scene headings. A scene is tagged the same way, and belongs to the act tagged before it.
- If QPlot finds no words, the name box opens. Type the name.
- Tap a tag to rename it, change its kind or delete it.
- In the side panel, swipe a tag to delete it.
Hiding pages
- Hide a page the show has cut. Go to it and tap Hide page.
- Page turns skip it. Its tags and cues leave the lists and Show mode. Nothing is deleted and no cue is renumbered.
- Pages shows hidden pages dimmed. Tap one to bring it back.
- Press and hold any page in Pages to hide or unhide it.
- More, Unhide all pages brings back every hidden page.
This is page 1
- The count starts at the title page. To use the script's own numbers, go to the page printed as 1, open More, then Settings, and tap This is page 1.
- Every page number in QPlot now matches the script. Pages before page 1 count i, ii, iii.
- Reset, in the same place, puts the count back.
Settings worth knowing
- Settings is in the More menu.
- Finger input is for an iPad with no Pencil. A finger then marks the page, and Browse joins the tool bar for turning pages.
- Tags can be Names or Dots. A dot sits before the words and carries A, S or a music note. Tap a dot to read its name.
- Cue size runs from Small to Largest.
- Edge taps switches off the page-turn strips at the sides while plotting.
- Light appearance switches the app from dark to light.
- Half-page turns and Dark page are for Show mode.
- Settings cover every show on this iPad, apart from This is page 1.
